AFS Global Educators Program
Greater Puget Sound
The AFS Global Educators Program is for people who work in the field of education-outstanding international teachers who come to work with schools in America, and all kinds of educators from the U.S. who go abroad to work with teachers and students from other countries. Through AFS Global Educators, participants expand their knowledge of other cultures and educational systems, exchange methods of teaching and learn from teachers and administrators., all while acquiring first hand knowledge of what it’s like to live in another country.
To become a Global Educator:
Participants may teach class or be guest teachers, give presentations to student groups, teachers, administrators or community leaders, work with elementary, high school or college students, or help train other teachers. Most participants are placed with local host families to experience what it is like to live as a member of a local family and community in the host country. There are semester and month-long programs. Scholarships are available. Destinations include China, Thailand, South Africa, Argentina and Mexico. Spots are still available for Global Educator programs departing this summer. Preferred applications should be received by May 1, 2005. To learn more call 1-800-AFS-INFO, email AFS at afsinfo@afs.org or for an e-brochure visit AFS-USA.
To host a Global Educator:
In addition to their own professional development, visiting teachers who travel to the United States are interested in learning about American culture and family life, as well as, sharing their own customs and traditions. Becoming part of a family affords them the opportunity to experience “real American culture”. In turn, families who host adults gain a mature and informed perspective on another country, while forging friendships and memories that can last a lifetime. AFS-GPS Global Educators are considered part of the local Area Team. They are invited to and involved in local orientations and social events. As well, each visiting teacher and their host family are supported by an AFS liaison volunteer. For further information, contact our local Area Team Global Educator Coordinator, David Tremaine at intertie2001@earthlink.net.
