AFS Greater Puget Sound-- Sending

Learn a new language. Experience another way of life.

Become an AFS exchange student.

Step into a wider world than you’ve ever imagined — full of new people, new places and new cultures. Explore daily life in another country by living, not as a tourist, but as a local with a host family. You will learn to speak the language, become a member of the community and make long lasting friendships. When you return to the U.S., it will be with a greater understanding of the world and your place in it.

Types of programs

AFS offers four types of programs: year, semester, summer and special team / community service treks. While equally enriching, each program brings with it different challenges and experiences. Specific program information and costs can be found on the, AFS-USA website.

The sending process

Once you decide to apply to become an AFS student, you will complete a pre-application form on afsusa.org.  When we receive the pre-application, the full process will begin. The full process includes submitting a visa application, AFS application, references, school transcripts and medical information.  For more information please visit the AFS-USA website.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available to those who qualify. Ask your admissions advisor or AFS-GPS Sending Coordinator Anne Davis for more information.

For further information on any of our programs, please contact our local Area Sending Coordinator, Anne Davis or call the AFS-Portland office at 1-800-AFS-INFO.
